Intersection that Changes Everything
by Janice Seney

The young woman entered the bank.  Some of the wealthiest men and women in the world conducted business in and through this place It was obvious that she was out of place in such an elegant business establishment.   Her clothes were not rags but they certainly were not in fashion and her hair was pulled back and tied with a simple tattered ribbon. Ellen was walking into unfamiliar territory..

Ellen stepped out of the line of traffic to take a moment to gain her composer.   Her thoughts raced, “Surely they will throw me out of here but the man told me to meet him here.”  Fumbling in her purse, she pulled out a business card, squared her shoulders and approached the receptionist desk.

“Excuse me, I am here to see Mr. Lloyd Right.”  The receptionist was about to buzz the security guard when Ellen said,  “I have an appointment.”

As Ellen was shown into Mr. Right’s office, he rose to greet her.  “Ellen, thank you for coming.  Let me get right to point.  You are the sole heir of a Mr. Arthur Life who I believe was your great uncle.  He has already handled all necessary paper work, taxes, and legal fees before his death and all that is necessary is for you to sign these papers accepting the transfer of his three billion dollar empire into your hands.

At that moment, Ellen’s entire life changed.   Nothing changed but everything changed.  She was still Ellen, dressed out of fashion, with a tattered ribbon in her hair but at the same time she was a billionaire.

Her life was not changed by anything she had done but only by what was legally given to her and her choice to receive it.

How much would she allow this inheritance to change her life style?  How much would she be willing to learn and would she grow to fit this new life?

She is a billionaire but will she live as a billionaire or simply continue in her small thinking enjoying some of the benefits of all that money.   Very simple:  she is a billionaire legally. Very complicated: she has no clue how to live like a billionaire.

Very simple!  Because of the death of Jesus Christ, you ARE an heir of salvation (healing, wholeness, soundness, safety, deliverance, prosperity, and eternal life.)  You HAVE access to the very heart of God.  Spiritual gifts, authority, and power ARE yours.  Very complicated:  how much of that will you put your hand to apply in your everyday life.

Legally, because of the blood of Jesus Christ you have been given right standing with the God of the universe who has focused His Love on you.   Legally, healing, wholeness, soundness, safety, deliverance, prosperity, and eternal life are YOURS.

In reality, few Christians will ever put off the old man and walk in the new man.

Few Christians have taken hold of the Blood of Jesus and the work of Calvary and are transformed into the full status that has been given them in Christ.

Keep it simple.  YOU ARE!  You are not going to be!  In our story, Ellen is a billionaire.  She is not going to become a billionaire.   You are a new creation, in right standing with God, given authority, spiritual gifts, power, grace, mercy, and the favor of God.

Take ownership of your inheritance and then determine to grow to fit it.  All the resources of heaven are available to assist you in your growth.

Col 1:21-22 And you, who once were alienated and enemies. . . yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.

You have been given a place in Christ where God meets you as an heir.  The bank vault is open.  How much of it are you willing to live.

Ellen’s billions were a blessing and a cross to bear.   The intersection of her life as she had always known it to be and the new life of being a billionaire formed a cross where she had to die to the old and put on the new.

As Christians we want to take our new status of being a “billionaire” and fix our old life instead of exchanging the old for the new.

How foolish.  Imagine Ellen taking some of her billions and fixing up her $80,000 house to make it “really nice” when she could have exchanged it for a mansion.

Luke 9:23-24 Jesus said, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.  "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

Seney translation, Jesus says to you, if you desire to follow me, you must decide which road to take at each intersection where your old life and your new life cross.  If you try to fix and repair and save your old identity you will have nothing but if you will lay down your old identity for My sake you will find the new life I have given you.

Rom 8:16 -17 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs; heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ . . .
